Almost there

Effervescence II is now ready for dyeing. It has been cut out and some surface embroidery added.
I am at the stage of deciding on the colour of dyes to use. I am leaning towards a cool colour scheme.
Watch this space for more images of the finished dyed piece.

Handed Down, Handing On

For the Textile 21 exhibition earlier this year there was a definite white theme going on.

I chose to use old linen and lace handed down by family members and the only colour came from the delicate brown of the teabags which I covered with silk organza.

This is the corner I was allocated for my finished 2D pieces
the following three images show detail of the fan blades. All of which utilised old lace and they were embellished by hand and machine embroidery

The next five images are closeups of the pillows I made from old table linen and lace.

This is a small picture that again use teabags for the base and free machine embroidery embellishing of old pieces of lace.

these three are closeups of the Tri-Tea-Tych where I again employed white embroidery on a background of teabags and silk organza

My aim was to produce pieces that I could hand on to my daughters not only from my generation but previous generations

Latest Silk Works

This is the bag that I made from a new fabric made from silk rods. During the latest workshop I lead at Silk-n-Threads we used both silk hankies and silk rods to make new fabric surfaces from  which we made purses, needlecases, hearts and backgrounds for embroideries and silk paintings.
http://silk-n-threads.blogspot.com/ is the link to the Silk-n-Threads blog where the pictures of the goodies made by members.
The bag has a silk dupion lining  and finished off with a machine wrapped cord and handle.

I will be leading a workshop at The Threshing Barn, Leek, later in the year. Details later.

THE PRESIDENT - CLEMATIS

It has been a while since I last posted but I have been busy creating and just to prove it here is a silk embellished picture of a clematis that used to climb throughout a quince at our last house. Sadly it is no longer there as the new owner has pulled up most of the garden for an extension!! So glad I have a reminder of this stunning clematis 'The President'. I've bought a new one for a trellis at our new house.

This closeup shows in more detail the texture I achieved with the embellisher and the finishing off on the sewing machine as well as the beaded centre.

NUNO FELT WORKSHOP

Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop last Saturday. For full details of the whole day's events go to the Silk-n-Threads Blog. Here are my finished results.

Two pieces of white silk chiffon trapped white and green wool rovings in a grid pattern. In between the gaps in the grid pattern circles of green wool and pink silk tops. The ends of the rovings used for the grid can be seen at the edges of the four sides. If you click on the picture you can clearly see the crinkly effect achieved when the wool shrinks and is pushed through the chiffon.
The finished result is strong and has a great tactile appeal. Cushion or Wall Hanging, can't make my mind up!

In these two pieces a predyed piece of silk chiffon had wool rovings and silk tops arranged on top before felting using a traditional wet method. I feel an embroidery or two coming on!
